2008 AUSTRALIAN TERTIARY EDUCATION AND TRAINING ROAD-SHOW

The Austrade 2008 Australian Tertiary and Education Road-show rolled into PNG this week.

“This year the Road-show has attracted a record twenty delegates representing eighteen of Australia’s premier tertiary institutions” said Mr John Brand, Senior Trade Commissioner for Austrade based in Port Moresby.

“The delegates represent universities and technical and further education colleges from South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory and Queensland offering a wide range of professional and specialised diploma, undergraduate and post graduate qualifications” said Mr Brand.

“Delegates are here to promote and discuss their courses with prospective candidates including those applicants who have been short listed under AusAID’s Australian Development Scholarships”.

“These scholarships are a key part of the Australian aid program to PNG and play an important role in building people to people links between Australia and PNG”.

“130 Australian Development Scholarships are awarded to Papua New Guineans each year - these are split evenly between the public sector and "open" category and are also split evenly between men and women.”

“ There are currently over 350 Papua New Guineans studying in Australia ranging from students on TAFE courses through to PhDs.”

The Roadshow is in Lae during 16-17 June at the Lae International Hotel and in Port Moresby during 19-20 June at the Holiday Inn. The general public is welcome between 1.00pm-4.00pm each day.
