AUSTRALIA CALLS FOR BIDS FROM PNG SPORTING BODIES

The Australian Government is inviting organisations in Papua New Guinea to seek funding for sports projects through its Australian Sports Outreach Program.

Grants of up to AU$10,000 (PGK20,000) are available for projects which promote greater participation in sport and physical activity and provide other benefits such as promoting health, leadership and social cohesion.

Applications are open to both government and non-government organisations. Bids must be submitted to the Australian High Commission in Port Moresby by Monday 18 May 2009.

“In the past we’ve been able to support some fantastic programs that have helped Papua New Guinean sporting groups get more young people involved in sport,” said Acting Australian High Commissioner Mr John Feakes.

“The special sporting bonds between Australia and Papua New Guinea are very well known. We are committed to assisting the development of sports in Papua New Guinea, including through the Australian Sports Outreach Program,” he said.

Copies of grant guidelines, application forms, and selection criteria can be obtained from the reception desk at the Australian High Commission. They are also available from http://www.dfat.gov.au/geo/spacific/asop/index.html.
