PNG food and beverage buyers attend Fine Food Australia trade fair

Key food and beverage buyers from leading Papua New Guinea (PNG) business houses are attending the annual Fine Food Australia (FFA) trade fair in Sydney.

Austrade facilitated the attendance of these buyers to the FFA which is being held from 7 to 10 September.

There are dedicated features at FFA this year such as, Dairy World, Drinks World, Confectionary World, Nature Products World, Meat and Seafood World and Gluten Free World.

Australian High Commissioner to PNG, Chris Moraitis, said the Australian High Commission and Austrade recognises the importance of Australia-PNG bilateral trade.

“Austrade supported buyer visits to trade fairs in Australia are a great way for key decision makers in the PNG food and beverage sector to indentify potential new suppliers, and to keep abreast of new and emerging international trends,” he said.

Mr Moraitis said “Austrade provides buyers with a range of on ground support in-country including arranging meetings with pre-qualified Australian suppliers – saving both parties time and money.”

The six buyers travelling from PNG are RH Trading: Nathan Ho (Executive Director) & Peter Tiang. City Pharmacy Ltd: Pamela Haslam (Senior Category Manager) & Michael Taylor. Crowne Plaza Hotel: Mathew Lambert (Chef). Airways Hotel: Cameron Mackenzie (General Manager). Boroko Foodworld will be represented by their Australian based consolidator, Geoffrey Hughes.

Buyers are typically looking for new product lines to expand existing product categories and to create new store product categories for supermarkets and to compliment and expand menu options in hotels.

Most of the PNG buyers have refurbishment work underway or are building new facilities in the near future – so the timing is opportune.
