AusAID is seeking highly qualified and experienced professionals to fill a number of vacancies within our Aid Program

About AusAID PNG
AusAID PNG is responsible for the delivery of the Australian Aid program to PNG by assisting the PNG Government to reduce poverty and achieve sustainable development. The PNG program is one of Australia’s largest aid programs, providing approximately A$491.7 million for 2012-13.
The PNG Post is led by a Head of Aid (Senior Executive Service Officer Band 2) that manages staff comprising both Australian based (A-Based) and locally engaged/overseas based (O-Based) staff. All staff in PNG work in a team based environment. AusAID employs approximately 52 A-Based and 103 O-Based employees, the majority of whom are located in Port Moresby.

About the roles
Work at the Program Manager (O-Based 6) level is performed independently or as part of a work team under limited direction of a Manager and will contribute to the attainment of AusAID’s corporate goals and objectives. Some positions may have management responsibilities such as managing team performance and responsibility for the achievement of specific team outcomes. Employees will possess a high level of capability. They will be able to demonstrate a sound and thorough understanding of the role and responsibilities of AusAID and be able to communicate with others the purpose of their work in supporting AusAID’s objectives.

Duties may include:

  • Manage and monitor the performance of specific project(s) and activities to deliver key developmental outcomes;
  • Provide advice on corporate, program management/policy management and/or program and policy issues and make recommendations to senior management to assist AusAID in meeting its goals and objectives;
  • Provide input to strategic planning for the agency’s corporate or program activities;
  • Financial management, procurement, and contract management;
  • Establish strong networks and build productive relationships with key stakeholders;
  • Act as primary point of contact for AusAID with partners such as local government, national institutions, the private sector and civil society institutions;
  • Working as part of a team, identify and implement activities to strengthen linkages and collaboration between AusAID and other stakeholders;
  • Coordinate, monitor and report on one or more of AusAID’s sector program in PNG; and
  • Represent AusAID PNG at meetings, conferences and seminars.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven professional experience and success in managing business and corporate functions in a diverse organisation
  • The ability to support the attainment of work area goals including key performance outcomes, strategic thinking, evaluation, analysis and innovation
  • Demonstrated strong administration and management capability including planning, teamwork, human resource and financial resource management.
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills to deal with complex and often sensitive organizational issues including; contract management and stakeholder engagement
  • A high level of communication and interpersonal skills that can be applied to building productive working relationships with stake holders, other managers and employees
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications and/or experience
