Be Part of the Solution: Community Justice Fund

Supporting locals to make PNG Safer

Are you working to make your community safer and more just? The Australian Government wants to support your initiatives through our new Community Justice Fund.

Priority areas

The CJF is looking to support local, grassroots initiatives that address gender-based violence, sorcery accusation related violence, and corruption. We also welcome projects focused on community safety, crime prevention, youth diversion, tribal violence prevention, access to justice, survivor support, gender equality, and building integrity in local institutions.

Your project might involve community awareness, support services, legal aid, youth programs, safety partnerships with police, financial literacy, counselling, research, or training. We're looking for innovative ideas that can make a real difference in your community.

Who can apply?

We welcome applications from PNG-led civil society organizations, faith-based groups, community groups, small businesses, and frontline services. Ideally the organisations would be registered in PNG or led by Papua New Guineans. Our current focus is on those operating in Hela, Southern Highlands, Western Province, Morobe, Madang, West New Britain, and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.

Funding & support available

We offer three levels of funding, each running for 1-2 years:

Start-up (PGK 12,500 – 25,000): Perfect for testing new ideas and first-time applicants. Success could lead to larger funding opportunities.

Growth (PGK 25,000 – 125,000): For expanding successful initiatives and projects with wider community impact.

Scale-up (PGK 125,000 – 250,000): For established local initiatives with a proven track record and significant community reach.

Beyond funding

We don’t just provide money – we’re here to support you with planning, implementation, guidance, and reporting assistance. We’ll also help connect you with other community champions so you can share experiences, access training, and strengthen your impact.
