Access to law enforcement services for communities and visitors in the Kokoda Track region will be enhanced with additional infrastructure at the Kokoda Station.
Australia is partnering with the Northern Provincial Government, the Sohe District Administration, and the Kokoda Track Authority to refurbish the Kokoda police station and build police barracks.
The infrastructure upgrades, worth PGK3.1 million, will also see three dual[1]purpose police and Kokoda Track Authority patrol houses constructed along the Kokoda Track to enhance community policing and uphold law and order in on-track communities.
The groundbreaking ceremony at Kokoda Station was officiated by Northern (Oro) Governor, Hon. Gary Juffa, Sohe MP, Hon. Henry Amuli, Australian High Commission representative Daniel Wells and Kokoda Track Authority Acting Chief Executive, Julius Wargirai.
Governor Juffa emphasised the importance of upholding law and order and thanked the Australian Government for its continued support in investing and strengthening law and order in Papua New Guinea.
“Health, education and Law and order services are essential for the communities living along the Track, so I am grateful for the continued support of the Australian Government,” said Governor Juffa.
Australia continues to work with Papua New Guinea to develop and safeguard the Kokoda Track region, symbolising the historic and lasting bond between Australia and Papua New Guinea.
