Papua New Guinea’s transport sector agencies have endorsed a review of the Transport Sector Coordination Monitoring and Implementation Committee (TSCMIC).
Bringing together transport and central agencies to align policy, planning and investment with national priorities, TSCMIC is the principal mechanism for transport sector coordination.
It comprises the heads of these agencies, who jointly coordinate, plan and oversee transport sector priorities.
An independent panel of Papua New Guineans, led by Ambassador Joshua Kalinoe, undertook the review.
The review commenced in late 2025 to assess TSCMIC’s ongoing relevance, role and effectiveness in coordinating transport sector policy, planning and investment.
TSCMIC Chair and Secretary for the Department of Transport, Mr Mathew Wowoni, said the review provides a clear pathway to strengthen how the sector coordinates and delivers transport priorities.
“This review reflects the priorities of sector agencies and sets out practical steps to strengthen TSCMIC’s structure and operations, supporting more effective coordination of transport policy, planning and investment across Papua New Guinea,” Mr Wowoni said.
Transport sector and central agencies endorsed the review through TSCMIC at its first quarterly meeting on 26 March 2026.
Since TSCMIC was established in 2007, Australia has supported transport sector coordination in line with PNG Government priorities through the Transport Sector Support Program (TSSP), including support to the review.
