Australia has reaffirmed its long-standing support for Papua New Guinea’s media sector with the presentation of mobile journalism, or “MoJo”, kits to the University of Goroka’s Centre for Social and Creative Media.
The kits, provided through the PNG-Australia Partnership, will strengthen the university’s teaching to students, ensuring the next generation of communicators are properly prepared to start work in PNG’s fast changing media environment.
The new equipment handover also coincided with training on the MoJo kits for five academic staff members from the university.
The use of mobile technology is increasingly central to modern media work, allowing reporters and communicators to capture high quality video and audio wherever they are. The MoJo kits will enable the university faculty to better equip students with the practical skills needed to work across digital and traditional media platforms.
The Director for the Centre for Social and Creative Media, Dr. Lilly Sar welcomed the support, noting the practical value of the equipment for students.
“These kits will make a real difference to how we train our students,” said Dr Sar.
“They allow students to learn how to engage communities using these media tools in the real world, helping them graduate ready to work as reporters and community development workers in today’s modern media environment.”
The handover of more MoJo equipment to help students is planned shortly, with a second event scheduled at the Papua New Guinea University of Technology in Lae on 1 May 2026.
Australia has supported the media sector in Papua New Guinea for more than two decades, working with local partners to strengthen journalism skills, media institutions, and access to accurate and independent information.
This long-term support reflects Australia’s commitment to a strong, independent media sector that serves communities across the country.
Australia’s investment in media training complements broader cooperation under the PNG–Australia Partnership, which spans education, governance, economic growth, and community development.
