Through Australia’s Economic and Social Infrastructure Program (ESIP), graduates in Papua New Guinea are gaining practical experiences in project management and learning how infrastructure contributes to development outcomes.
As part of the ESIP Graduate Development Program, graduates are developing practical skills across energy, social infrastructure, gender equality, disability, and social inclusion, locally led development, monitoring, and evaluation.
Graduate Elisha Kerowa has been appointed Project Coordinator for the construction of the new Softball Facilities at UPNG. He said the program has provided valuable hands-on experience.
“Since becoming a project coordinator for a new project early this year, I’ve developed a strong foundation in project management and seen how it is applied in practice, especially ensuring that project activities are delivered in line with the scope, schedule and budget of the project.”
During a visit to the Australian High Commission, graduates met with the infrastructure team, shared their experiences, and gained first-hand insight into how their work contributes to Papua New Guinea and Australia’s development partnership goals.
Reflecting on the experience, Graduate Trainee Ashley Tuno said.
“One of the most meaningful things I’ve learned is the ‘softer side’ of infrastructure - understanding how our work improves people’s lives beyond what is built.”
Through Australia’s support, the ESIP Graduate Development Program is investing in the next generation of Papua New Guineas professionals by equipping them with practical skills, and hands-on experience to contribute to infrastructure delivery, drive development outcomes and shape their career pathways.
