More than 90 Australia Awards alumni, Australian university representatives and development partners have gathered to celebrate the enduring connections created through education and strengthen professional networks between Papua New Guinea and Australia.
The reception brought together alumni from a diverse range of sectors alongside representatives from Australian universities participating in the Study Australia Education Roadshow.
The event highlighted the significant contribution Australia Awards alumni make across PNG through leadership, innovation and service.
Alumni working in government, business, education, health and community development continue to apply the knowledge and skills gained through their study experiences in Australia to support PNG’s development priorities.
Speaking at the event, Australian High Commission Minister-Counsellor Ms Madeleine Moss reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to supporting education and people-to-people connections.
“This event brings together alumni, university representatives and partners who share a commitment to education, leadership and the enduring relationship between Papua New Guinea and Australia.
“The strength of the Australia Awards network is reflected in the contribution alumni continue to make across Papua New Guinea and the lasting partnerships they build with Australia.”
The networking event provided opportunities for alumni to reconnect with their universities, establish new professional relationships and explore future opportunities for collaboration.
It also showcased the strength and diversity of the Australia Awards alumni community and its ongoing contribution to the PNG–Australia Partnership.
Mr Belden Kono, an alumnus and academic from the University of Goroka was excited to be part of the networking reception.
“I truly appreciated this networking event. With my aspiration to pursue a PhD, I was fortunate to connect with the representative from RMIT University. We discussed the next steps for my academic journey, including how to secure a program supervisor,” Mr Kono said.
Australia Awards supports educational and professional development opportunities that strengthen leadership, build capability and foster lasting links between PNG and Australia.
