About the Bougainville Section
The Bougainville Coordination team coordinates policy and cross program issues in Bougainville and comprises staff based in both Port Moresby and Bougainville.

About the role
The Assistant Program Manager will support the monitoring and management of Australian Aid program activities in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.

The key responsibilities for this position are:

  • Manage less complex contracts and monitor contractor performance. Undertake contract administration, the resolution of problems, the management of contract variations and amendments, the maintenance of contract-related records and ensure that DFAT meets its contractual obligations;
  • Manage the finances of activities. Prepare financial estimates, co-ordinate budgets, maintain financial records and analyse/monitor expenditure;
  • Monitor activities and report activity outcomes. Draft less complex correspondence, policy briefs and reports on a wide range of matters relevant to program management;
  • Assist in managing project/s providing advice and expertise to deliver key developmental outcomes;
  • Assist in negotiations and liaison with stakeholders;
  • Establish network and professional connections/links with team members and other stakeholders especially the Autonomous Bougainville Government;
  • Assist in preparation of visits for senior Australian Government officials, including Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, DFAT Executives and Australian Delegations;
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reviews of projects (project designs, frameworks and formulation) for peer and quality assessments for new and on-going projects; and
  • Assist in the development, review and interpretation of policy in relation to Bougainville.
