Pre-APEC tour of the School of Business & Public Policy

The Australian High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea Mr Bruce Davis joined High Commissioner Designate to Australia Mr John Kali, Secretary‑General Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat Dame Meg Taylor and University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) leadership on a pre-APEC tour of the soon to be opened School of Business and Public Policy (SBPP) at UPNG on Friday 9 November.

Valued at more than K80 million, the SBPP is a state-of-the-art facility that will provide students with a world-class learning environment. Spread over four floors, it includes two lecture theatres, five tutorial rooms, computer and hospitality laboratories, a library, 10 meeting rooms and 50 offices.

The building was constructed by local company L&A Constructions, creating jobs and training opportunities for hundreds of Papua New Guineans in the construction workforce.

Drawing on local labour and supporting local business are key priorities for Australian Government infrastructure investments in Papua New Guinea, boosting the economy.

The delegation also inspected a section of the “Constitution Walk”, a 950-metre footpath that joins UPNG and the Pacific Institute of Leadership and Governance.

Constitution Walk, which includes nine sculptures made by local artists, will encourage deeper linkages between the two institutions.

It is also a very tangible demonstration of respect for Papua New Guinea’s founding values as enshrined in the constitution.
